Motorola Droid R2-D2 getting the Gingerbread update, too?

Motorola has already started pushing Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates to the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global users, but what about the DROID R2-D2? Will it too get the same treatment?

Apparently members of the Motorola Feedback Network community have started receiving emails about a “confidential project for Droid R2-D2 owners.” We don’t have this officially confirmed, but it’s kinda safe to bet they are talking about the latest version of Android OS for smartphones. In that sense, I’m sure we’ll hear more from both Motorola and Verizon Wireless in the days to come.

If you recall, the Droid R2-D2 is a special version of the Droid 2 made to pay homage to everyone’s favorite robot from the Star Wars movies. It is sold with a special dock, which is used for charging and syncing the phone with a computer. Aside from that, its guts remain unchanged and include a 1GHz processor, 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, 5-megapixel camera, side-sliding QWERTY keyboard and so on.
