iPhone Takes 17% of Smartphone Market

Apple is now rumored to have met and surpassed their goal of shipping 10 million iPhones for the year. That’s a heck of a lot of iPhones if you ask me for such a short period of time. It kind of makes you wonder what their market share currently is!

Reports now have it that among smartphone devices, the iPhone now represents roughly 17% of the market. Not bad for such a young device.

How much further do you think Apple can take the iPhone? Do you think they will have to release different models of the phone… One perhaps with a physical QWERTY keyboard, perhaps another with a PTT (Push-to-Talk) feature? It seems as though they haven’t penetrated very deep into the business market as of yet, as large corporations still prefer their technology… From RIM in particular. With RIM diving into the touchscreen market with the Storm, would it be a step backwards for Apple to release a business focused, QWERTY device? It’s interesting to think about at the very least!
