Yesterday, Flickr announced its first Android app, bringing the same photo sharing features users have grown to love. Flickr for Android is available for Android 2.1 or higher devices, and is both a photo browser and a camera alternative app with photo filters — so it not only shares photos, but improves them as well.
Android users can expect features which includes a shoot & share camera that allows users to change settings to personalize an image from the camera or gallery. Also, they can then add 10 filters and effects that change the image’s tone, which is part of the appeal of Instagram. The book isn’t out yet on whether its a true threat to apps like Instragram but at least you can get Flickr on Android.
Lastly, users can post the image directly to Flickr with details, as well as export the photo to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or email. It’s no doubt that Flickr is a popular photo sharing service for photographers and adventurist types, but the app seems to be perfectly tailored for average consumers as well.
Honestly, I have no idea as to why it took the photo sharing company so long to make its app for Android handsets, especially since its been on the iPhone for two years. That said, the Android faithful should have an awesome experience with this Flickr app, as users can view the incoming stream of photos shared by their friends — which is always good.
