Vringo, the video ringtone service we’ve covered for few times in the past, is launching its Facetones service in the U.S. in partnership with Verizon Wireless. Nope, the application won’t come preloaded on the carrier’s smartphones but will be available through V CAST Apps, Verizon’s app store.
If you’ve missed our previous posts on Facetones, here’s what you should know – by integrating with Facebook, it automatically creates a fancy video slideshow using your friends’ photos from the popular social network.
This “benefit” will cost you $0.99 per month or $2.99 for unlimited use. That’s presuming you own a compatible BlackBerry or Android device — and from what we can tell all of the latest Verizon smartphones will sing along Facetones — including the Motorola Droid X, HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Continuum and LG Revolution.
So what do we think about this? Personally I don’t dig any kind of custom ringtones — usually I just pick one of the options that come built-in with the phone — but I know people can spend hours personalizing their phones with wallpapers, screensavers and (video) ringtones. For those folks, Facetones is yet another option to try out…
