I can vividly remember hours and hours spent playing Boulder Dash on my Commodore 64. It was one of those challenging games that required additional skills; unlike most others I played at the time that involved either killing someone or something, or scoring a point (sports games). Today I’m glad to see Boulder Dash has been released for Android, but to tell you the truth – I’m a bit afraid to download it. This is “serious stuff” that could easily wipe my free time…
Anyway… the full name of the title is “Boulder Dash – The Collection” and as you can imagine, it packs several Boulder Dash games. The problem, however, is that 2.50 GBP (not sure what’s the price in dollars) gets you only one game pack, with additional 4 selling as in-app purchases. That’s kinda lot for a game, but like a change for reliving your childhood.
You start with more than 30 caves and 3 levels of difficulty in Boulder Dash-M.E. Vol. 2 and work back in time with in-app purchases of the other 4 games. Boulder Dash-M.E. Vol.1 is the first additional cave pack available at launch, while 3 other packs (including Boulder Dash Construction Kit, Boulder Dash-Vol. 2 and, finally, the game that started it all – Boulder Dash-Vol. 1) will be released soon.
Needless to say, the Android version comes with improved graphics and sound, and there’s also OpenFeint integration, allowing you to share your achievements with the world…
