iPhone 4S’ ‘Find My Friends’ app helps man catch cheating wife

The great thing about the iPhone 4S and iCloud’s new Find My Friends app is that it lets users share their location information with other iOS users in case you’re nearby and want to hang out and party. It’s sort of like Buddy Beacon for Helio (remember that?) or Google Latitude. But what happens when you have the feature enabled on your phone without realizing it, and your husband learns that you’ve been lying about your whereabouts? Material for an episode of Cheaters is what happens.

One Thomas Metz of the MacRumors Forum offers the following story:

I got my wife a new 4s and loaded up find my friends without her knowing. She told me she was at her friends house in the east village. I’ve had suspicions about her meeting this guy who live uptown. Lo and behold, Find my Friends has her right there.

I just texted her asking where she was and the dumb b!otch said she was on 10th Street!! Thank you Apple, thank you App Store, thank you all. These beautiful treasure trove of screen shots going to play well when I meet her a$$ at the lawyer’s office in a few weeks.

thankfully, she’s the rich one.

Metz, if that’s his real name and has a fresh new user account, proffers more fodder for our consideration in his finest prose:

this girl is so dumb….I just hope I can keep cool and not let on that I know

she said she is in meat packing district which is on 12th street. I DONT THINK SO. Appreicate the support. not my finest hour here but going to get better soon.

We’re not going to go into what we think about this situation — she could have been lying about her location and not necessarily cheating, perhaps it was wrong of him to stalk her, so on and so forth. However, it does have some of the elements of hyped-up Internet hoaxes. It’s a very plausible story and it involves the sort of scandalous events that happen to couples all the time. The icing on the cake is that the brand-new iPhone 4S and Find My Friends offer a starring role in the plot.

Oh, and here’s his evidence:
