We’re not sure why it took so long for The Guardian to launch its iPad app, but whatever the reason is – we’re glad to finally see it in the AppStore. What’s more, we hope they’ll also be bringing its content to the growing army of Android Honeycomb-based tablets in the near future.

Back to the iPad edition. It’s free to download and comes with complimentary 86 issues, starting with the day you launch the application for the first time. Once that period expires, you’ll have to subscribe to keep reading the newspaper. For $13.99 or 9.99 GBP, you get 6 issues per week for a month. And if you’re already subscribed to the printed edition, you’ll get to access the iPad version free of charge.

The Guardian for iPad is compatible with Apple’s newsstand service which means that the latest issue will be downloaded in the background, waiting for you every morning. Moreover, you’ll be able to access editions from the last month, watch videos embedded in articles, share stories with friends, and access the “back page” for the latest news, video and comment from the Guardian website…
