Twilio, the cloud communications company we’ve already talked about in the past, is bringing its Twilio Voice solution to Europe. The company opened an office in East London to allow developers to buy local UK telephone numbers instantly from the Twilio.com website and Twilio’s API. The service is used to build web and mobile applications that make and receive telephone calls, using very simple code.

The “cloud communications service” is launched in beta today in Poland, France, Portugal, Austria and Denmark, with an additional 11 countries (Italy, Romania, Greece, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Finland) launching by the end of this year.

If you missed our earlier posts, Twilio builds the “next generation telecoms company” by merging the worlds of cloud computing, web services and telecommunications. They host a telephony infrastructure web service in the cloud and enable developers to integrate phone calls into their web, mobile and phone applications…

Finally, alongside the new office, Twilio also announced its first major European customer – Zendesk, Copenhagen, Denmark-based maker of the customer support software. As a result, the new Zendesk Voice lets users set up cloud-based call centers at a fraction of the cost of traditional set-ups.
