China Mobile's Wang Jianzhou: We have 10 million iPhone users on our network

In a recent interview with Reuters, China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said its wireless network is home to more than 10 million iPhones. And while that’s insignificant figure compared to the carrier’s 600 million+ subscribers, it’s surprisingly high considering China Mobile doesn’t offer the iPhone. In that sense, it is believed that all those users have either grabbed the device from the secondary market or have switched networks from China Unicom, which sells the iPhone 4.

Although China Mobile doesn’t have a contract with Apple, the two parties have been negotiating over the iPhone launch. According to Wang, the Cupertino-based company has supposedly promised to support TD-LTE when it develops an LTE-enabled iPhone.

When you think about it – it makes a perfect sense for Apple to make its upcoming iPhone 5 compatible with China Mobile’s network to eventually reach tens of millions of new customers. We’ll see where this goes… Stay tuned in the meantime…
