Good news for Gmail fans with an iPhone. The rumor is that the search giant will soon be launching the official Gmail app for Apple’s mobile platform. We’ve no idea when exactly that will happen but we’re hoping we won’t have to wait for too long.

The story suggests iPhone users should expect all of the features Gmail for Android rocks, including better search, contact icons, improved threads and so on. Moreover, the word is that Google has already submitted the application and is now waiting for the Cupertino folks to give it a green light.

In the meantime, there’s Gmail’s web app for mobile which is pretty good and I personally use it even more than the native client on my Samsung Galaxy S II.

So are you looking forward for the native Gmail app for iPhone? Or the built-in mail app already does the job for you? Comments form is all yours…
