Motorola’s impossibly thin RAZR, known as the Droid RAZR in the United States, was recently disemboweled by our friends at iFixit. Taking it apart was no easy task, doing so effectively breaks the device, but once the Kevlar back came off … magic happens. Inside there’s a dual core 1.2 GHz processor made by Texas Instruments, 1 GB of LPDDR2 RAM made by Samsung, a Qualcomm radio handles the CDMA portion of the wireless networking, and a custom made Motorla chip that supplies LTE support. Our favorite component though is the battery, pictured below, which comes in at a mind blowing 2.8 mm thick. That’s pretty damn impressive since it delivers 1750 mAh worth of juice, 300 mAh more than the iPhone 4S. That degree of anorexia however is made up by how tall and wide the rest of the battery is: 96.3 mm x 57.2 mm. To give you some comparison, the iPhone 4S, as in the complete device, is 58.6 mm wide.
Now internal circuitry inside, if you’re reading this then chances are you’re probably considering picking up the RAZR. Should you? That all depends on the type of person you are. If you want the latest, most bleeding edge set of specifications, then no. The high end is now defined by 720p resolution screens, with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and HTC Rezound leading the pack. There are rumors that say the LG Optimus LTE, which also has a 720p screen, will come out on AT&T as the LG Nitro. If you’re all about games, then why are you even looking at Android? Just get an iPhone and be done with it. And how about design? The RAZR is unique, there’s no denying that, but if you really want to put some money down on something that’ll turn your heads then either import the Nokia Lumia 800 or wait for it to launch in early 2012. The look and feel of that device, plus the relatively unknown Windows Phone operating system, will guarantee people stop you in the street and demand you tell them more about your smartphone.
