Mobile navigation company ROUTE 66 launched ROUTE 66 Maps + Navigation for Android, providing users with a feature-packed mapping and navigation that utilizes the latest maps with 3D enhanced location content and Follow Me Augmented Reality Navigation.
That last part is especially interesting as it adds a new twist to navigation apps: Follow Me augmented reality navigation shows the real road ahead while adding a realistic virtual car driving in front to guide you to your destination.
Users have the option to either preload maps before leaving the home or let the app download them [maps] when needed. If you’re travelling abroad, it is suggested you download the maps first to save some cash on roaming and also get a better experience (in case your mobile Internet connection isn’t perfect).
Of course, there are also points of interest, clear on-screen guidance and advanced lane information. Real time traffic information and the latest speed camera warnings are available as premium services.
ROUTE 66 Maps + Navigation is free to download and offers free access to maps. Until December 31st, the application comes with a free 30-day Worldwide Trial license that includes Navigation (including Follow Me) and free access to premium services like Traffic information and Speed cameras. The lifetime Worldwide Navigation license is available via in-app purchase for $64.99, offering turn-by-turn navigation in over 80 countries.
