Amazon Kindle Fire update coming with many improvements

While we liked the Amazon Kindle Fire as a simple media tablet, some have been complaining that the device isn’t as responsive as it should be. Well, Amazon is promising a software update soon which should bring many improvements.

According to a report in the New York Times, Amazon said the Kindle Fire update will improve the multitouch response, enable users to edit the last-seen menu and more. I think that the Amazon tablet has some decent hardware inside of it but the software isn’t getting as much out of it as it can.

Amazon said the Kindle Fire update will come in “less than two weeks,” so that’s great news for any of you who happen to pick one up for the holiday season. More interestingly, Amazon hinted that another Kindle Fire or a sequel could be coming soon and the New York Times suggests it may be as early as the Spring. We’ve heard for a while that a second, larger version of the Kindle Fire may land soon, so that’s not much of a surprise.

The Kindle Fire continues to sell well, as Amazon said it’s the most successful product it has ever introduced but it never reveals how many Kindles it has sold, so that’s kind of a vague statement. Analysts suggest that it could sell three to five million units by the end of the year and that would likely help it slide into the second spot in the tablet market behind the iPad.
