LG talks Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade schedule – Coming in Q2 and Q3

Slowly manufacturers have begun to announce Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update details for their handset portfolios and now it’s LG’s turn. In a nutshell, updates should begin to rollout sometime in Q2 and Q3 of 2012, with some notable handsets missing from the Android 4.0 lineup.

LG announced the following on Facebook today:

During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

Notice anything missing? While you’ll find the Optimus 2X in the list set to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, the T-Mobile G2X is sadly missing. With enough issues to shake a stick at concerning the G2X, we were hoping LG would deliver an update to the handset that would make owners a bit more happy to own it. That doesn’t seem to be the case. We’re not quite sure why the handset won’t be getting the upgrade, as the G2X is essentially identical to the Optimus 2X, just with fewer software customization. With phones like the myTouch Q getting the upgrade, it’s a pretty strange move on LG’s part.

The first wave of updates will be hitting handsets sometime in the second quarter, translating to sometime between April and June, with the second wave hitting more of the Optimus portfolio in the 3rd quarter of the year.

LG rounds out the fourth major manufacturer to outline its Ice Cream Sandwich update timeline, following Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson. Let’s just hope it stays to its word on the timing of the Android 4.0 update and those rocking the G2x.. Well, you’re going to have to wait for a custom ROM.
