Nokia diagnostics hint at Lumia LTE phones coming to AT&T

The folks over at Nanapho.jp, a foreign Windows Phone news publication, did some digging on a Nokia Lumia device to find Nokia’s diagnostics app, which is accessible via the terminal.

There, they found different tests for “LTE TX” and “LTE Band Lock.” The latter is for choosing which LTE band the hardware should use and the Lumia oddly had options for Band 4 and Band 17, the same two bands AT&T LTE uses. I think you can see where this is going.

The Nokia Lumia 800 has been rumored to eventually land on AT&T’s network since November, but alas, nothing yet. In fact, it still hasn’t even made its way over seas for any carrier. Such a shame indeed, but perhaps these findings point to a bright future for AT&T users looking to get their hands on the first successful Windows Phone handset.

Nokia’s diagnostics app also has references to CDMA, which applies to Verizon or Sprint in the United States. The former is the most likely of the two but Verizon has been quite critical of Windows Phone, though. It hesitated quite a bit after Windows Phone launched in late 2010 before releasing any devices running it, and just a few weeks ago threatened to stop selling Windows Phone hardware unless the OS started supporting 4G LTE.

Something is definitely brewing with those sweet Lumia devices, and I’m looking forward to hearing more about them sailing across the ocean.
