RIM to show off PlayBook OS 2.0 at CES

It was looking like Research In Motion was going to have a tiny presence at CES 2012 but the company recently sent out an invitation to journalists and this will focus on the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 and BlackBerry 7.

The OS 2.0 software is supposed to come in February and it will fix many of the nagging holes found in the PlayBook, including native e-mail and calendar. This should also bring the much-vaunted Android player, which will bring certain Android apps to the BlackBerry tablet. It’s still not clear if the release date of this software will remain the same.

The invite will also cover BlackBerry 7 but we’ve already seen that for a few months. I wouldn’t expect any new devices, so it’s tough to get too excited about this aspect.

We know that RIM will show off BlackBerry 10 in February at the Mobile World Congress show, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see the future of RIM.
