We love when big government institutions and agencies are joining major trends, helping the mainstream consumer adopt new technologies. In that sense we’re glad to see UK’s national meteorological service, aka the Met Office, launching its Android application.

Available as a free download, it [app] is said to provide the “most accurate and reliable weather forecasts” on TV and radio, in print, online, and well, popular smartphones. The iPhone app, in case you wonder, was released two years ago.

So what do you get with the Met Office’s Android app? There are 5-day forecasts, severe weather warnings, daily weather maps, ability to easily save and access your favorite locations, UV forecast maps, feels like temperature, interactive weather maps and so on.

All that’s cool except that some users apparently have an issue when accessing the surface pressure map layer. This bug is known to the Met Office, which promised to resolve it in a future update…
