(Check out Will’s post on the contents of the update to the iPhone firmware here)
Many of you who have read my previous posts on the iPhone’s application issues will know that I have grievances coming out of my ears with both the Mail (here) and Calendar App (here). You’ll know that I have crashed Mail more times than I can remember, but what really gets my ire is the complete unreliability of it all.
Well, since the 2.2 FW, apparently one of the things that we are going to see is better performance from the Mail App. Without wanting to be pessimistic, I think a small miracle is going to be needed to fix it. Having said that, people tell me Mail used to work well, so let’s see if the boffins have fixed it. I will be testing it EXTENSIVELY once I have got the upgrade shoehorned on to my iPhone 3G.
**UPDATE: The Update has updated. End of Update**
Another thing that is apparently improved is Safari – interesting, because although I’ve not made mention of it, I’ve managed to crash Safari more than all of the other Apps combined – no mean feat when you consider Email and Calendar have been up and down like a yo-yo (in fact I managed to get the calendar to permanently “white-screen”, who knows how that happened…)!
Those of you that do go to 2.2, let us know what you find – personally I think it won’t be any worse than 2.1, which anecdotally is much less stable than 2.0…!
