Augmented reality experts from metaio will unveil the Augmented City platform, which adds 3D Object Tracking and Visual Search to its free mobile Augmented Reality SDK. Available for download from March 14th, metaio’s mobile SDK version 3.1 will assemble core technologies necessary for creating the “most interactive and immersive AR experiences,” allowing overlay of virtual information on building facades, city streets and almost any 3D real world object or device.
But that’s just one part of the story. You see, metaio also managed to corner mobile chipset providers like ARM, ST-Ericsson and Texas Instruments to make the SDK optimized for their chipset platform. This in turn will ensure faster experiences for the user and more reliable tools for developers.
Finally, metaio said it will offer two new support technologies to make AR content production easier and more cost-effective. The Augmented Reality Experience Language (AREL) will rely on HTML5 and JavaScript, while also supporting advanced AR gaming logic along with a “higher level of interaction and customization.” And let’s not forget the easy to use, point-and-click content authoring tool metaio Creator, which will still be available.
We’ll try to visit metaio’s booth to catch some live augmented reality action. Stay tuned…
