Not sure whether we should relate this to the iPad 3 announcement expected later in the day, but it’s not like a new top level category is added in Apple’s App Store ever day. The category is “Catalogs” and we got this information from the folks of TheFind.com, which Catalogue iPad app can now be found in the new category rather than “Lifestyle.”
Interestingly enough, Cupertino folks made the change without consulting anyone from TheFind Inc and I guess many other app developers.
TheFind’s CEO Siva Kumar likes the change, adding that with the new category Apple is “further validating that people are inclined to consume catalogs on their devices versus the paper waste inherent in print catalogs.”
