We don’t usually associate C Spire with high-end technologies like LTE. Guess we’re wrong as the regional carrier plans to launch its own 4G network later this year. Actually, they wanted to do that last year, but obviously something went wrong when those plans were postponed.
The new plan is to begin rollout in September, starting with 20 markets around Mississippi. Overall, the forthcoming network aims to cover some 2,700 square miles and a population of 1.2 million. The effort will require over 360 cell sites and about $60 million. After that part is done, C Spire will continue expansion in other markets it currently covers with 2G/3G services.
C Spire’s initial LTE rollout areas include Jackson metropolitan area; Mississippi Gulf Coast; the cities of Brookhaven, Columbia, Natchez, Petal, Hattiesburg, McComb and Lucedale in South Mississippi; the cities of Oxford, Tupelo, Corinth, New Albany, Pontotoc, Booneville, Starkville, Columbus and West Point in North Mississippi; the cities of Yazoo City, Cleveland, Greenville, Greenwood and Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta; and the city of Meridian and parts of Lauderdale County in East Mississippi.
