What’s inside the new iPad?

Along with any new Apple product, you can expect the wizards at iFixit to tear the thing apart for our pleasure and that’s exactly the case with the new iPad. The folks over at iFixit have torn apart the new iPad and revealed all of its secrets.

iFixit says the rear panel looks nearly identical to the iPad 2 and that the Retina Display really does hold up to the hype. “Oh goodness! It’s so beautiful! Even turned off, the 2048×1536 pixel “Retina Display” seems to radiate with colors one could not even begin to imagine,” they said, half tongue in cheek. That’s why it’s tough to see them take it apart. Interestingly enough, they say that the display appears to be made by Samsung, although there is some confusion about who actually makes the new 9.7-inch Retina Display.

Those of you who want the nitty gritty, you should head over to this page to see what the guts are. You have TI drivers, Broadcom wireless chips and Toshiba and Qualcomm parts inside as well. The new iPad is powered by the A5X processor – made by Samsung – and it sports a quad-core graphics chip in a similar footprint to the older model. We’ve also already confirmed that there is 1 GB of RAM in the new iPad, so we’re looking at a nice little specs boost here.

There doesn’t appear to be too many surprises in this teardown but we all know that it’s not just the parts, as the new iPad promises to deliver a great tablet experience.
