Yesterday we complained that the newest member of Nokia’s Windows Phone family, Lumia 610, will have the built-in tethering capability while its older (and better) cousins, Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, won’t. Nokia acknowledged the problem and promised to fix this by releasing a firmware update in the near future.
In a FAQ about the Lumia 900 published on Nokia Connects, the Finnish giant confirmed the issue. Here’s what they said:
Q: When will the tethering update for the Lumia devices be pushed out?
A: It will be in coming soon for 800 and 710 via Zune update, for 610 and 900 it will be available at launch.
Now we do hope this includes both tethering via USB cable and the ability to create a mobile hotspot out of your 3G network. Although the latter option can quickly drain your battery, it’s also a more elegant solution, the one you would use to quickly check your email, update your Facebook status and so on.
