Dell’s working on new smartphones for the end of 2012

Yesterday, a report from PC World suggested that Dell was terminating its smartphone line. The author was not sure if Dell was abandoning smartphones completely or whether the company still had new phones on its end-of-the-year roadmap. A company spokesperson reached out to PC World again to clarify this point and confirmed that Dell will produce new smartphone models at the end of this year.

According to the spokesperson, the Dell Venue and the Venue Pro had reached the end of their life. The move to shelve these devices was not a strategic plan to back away from smartphones, but a decision based on the age of the two handsets. The company would not say what phones it was planning for the end of the year. Dell did say that it was also working on new tablets for release in the US and other countries by the end of the year.
