It’s not an April’s Fool joke, as Variety is reporting that Ashton Kutcher will be playing Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic which will be titled “Jobs.”
Kutcher is mostly known for his dumb-guy routine in “That 70s Show” and as Charlie Sheen’s replacement in “Two and a Half Men” and pretty much all of his movies have been awful. Seriously, look at his IMDB and try to pick out a half-decent performance. Maybe “Dude, where’s my car?” and even that is not a stretch from his dumb-guy routine.
Jobs’ story has always been a dramatic one but it has taken on more meaning since he died last year. A true pioneer of the personal computing revolution, his personal life is also quite colorful and filled with LSD and roaming around India. He experienced some early success before being booted from the company he founded and he eventually came back to run Apple and watched it become one of the most valuable companies in the world.
Kutcher’s supposed to be much smarter than he lets on and I suppose he is due for a good performance. Of course, you have to wonder if he’ll ever be able to outdo Noah Wyle.
