We know that Nokia, Microsoft and AT&T will be pouring $200 million into the push of the Lumia 900 and other Windows Phone and we’re starting to see what the message is. In its “Smartphone Beta Test” series of ads, Nokia is taking some not-so-thinly-veiled shots at the competition.
I’ll let you watch the videos below but these ads focus on the iPhone death grip, the fragility of some phones and how difficult it is to see in the sun. Some key phrases include:
“Say someone drops the phone and it breaks … Bingo. We just sold another phone.”
“The screen is fine … people can just stay inside.”
“Shouldn’t I be able to hold it however I want?” “Stop acting like a spoiled child and use the approved grip.”
I do worry about the impact of a negative campaign, as I’m more interested in why I should buy the Lumia 900, not why I shouldn’t buy other phones. Still, this is just one plank in the advertising blitz and it is quite humorous. Check it out for yourself.
