Apple Publishes Carrier Activation and Feature Guide for the iPhone 3G

So lets say you stroll into an AT&T store and want to pick up an iPhone 3G. You tell them, ‘hey, can you unlock the 3G for me?’. Fat chance, right? Well… that IS right. But in other countries, other carriers may have another opinion on the matter.

Apple has released a new guide regarding the iPhone 3G’s and the various carriers around the world. It’s a really interesting look-see. As you scroll down the list, you’ll notice that in countries like Belgium, Greece, Taiwan and the Czech Republic (to name a few) the iPhone 3G is not locked to any carrier. This means you can buy the phone and use it any way you wish, on any carrier. You’ll also notice that other carriers around the world offer an authorized unlocking service.

Not surprisingly, and as I’m sure you’re well aware… The iPhone 3G is locked down to carriers and there is no authorized unlocking service available in Canada, the US or UK. Oh well.

Very interesting to say the least. Go ahead and check out the guide right here.
