Clear is an awesome and incredibly simple task/to-do list manager for iOS. Instead of using on-screen buttons, users of the Clear service pinch and swipe their way through a minimalist task list to manage the to-dos of the day. To-Do list managers quickly get a bit dull, however, which leads to reduced usage by all but the dedicated organizer. Clear gets it, and with an update today has added 7 new unlockable themes to the application. This brings the total number of unlockable themes up to 10 (that we know of), each of which bringing a unique color scheme to Clear.
So how do you get your hands on the themes, you ask? [Warning: Spoilers abound]
- Install Tweetbot – One theme unlocks simply by having Tweetbot ($2.99) installed on your iOS device.
- Follow the creators of Clear on Twitter. This unlocks the theme “Scorched.”
- Socialite – The Socialite theme is unlocked once you’ve completed 100 tasks.
- Gifted – Gifted is unlocked when you choose to gift Clear ($0.99) to someone else once prompted by the application.
- Path – The Path theme is unlocked by having Path (Free) installed on your iOS device.
- Ultraviolet – Ultraviolet unlocks once you’ve used the Clear application for 7 days straight.
- Night Owl – Night Owl is unlocked when you use Clear between 12 and 3 am.
- The Heist – Unlocks when you have The Heist ($2.99) installed. Requires installation of The Heist update, which should come mid-week.
- Temple Run – Unlocks when you have Temple Run (Free) installed. Requires installation of Temple Run update, which should later this month.
- Bumpy Road – Unlocks when you have Bumpy Road ($2.99) installed. Requires installation of Bumpy Road update, which should later this month.
Personally, I haven’t found a To-Do list application that I can really stick to, so it’s nice to see companies like Clear attempting to engage users of its application in a meaningful way. Most of us are driven by games, and hidden unlockable themes are ways to engage people to start and continue to use an application. Hopefully Clear will continue to build fun new ways to enjoy their application in future updates.
To go with this new update, Realmac Software has given Clear a 50% price cut to $0.99 (originally $1.99). At $1.99, Clear is a must-have application for those who need a to-do list manager, and at $0.99, it’s a steal. If you haven’t already, go ahead and give Clear a try on your iPhone.
