Nokia and Samsung win imaging awards

Nokia and Samsung has been hard at work capturing the minds of consumers with its cutting edge design. Well, both companies just grabbed themselves an award for its attention to detail. An organization named Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), who’s main forte is photography and imaging, handed out two awards to the OEMs.

The first award: Best Imaging Innovation was given to Nokia’s PureView technology. The photo and imaging organization praised the Nokia 808 PureView’s big image sensor and “lossless digital zoom” on the device. The Best Mobile Imaging Device award went to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as TIPA was impressed with the 720p Super AMOLED screen and the zero shutter lag.

That being said, these choices raises some flags, as the Nokia 808 PureView at the moment isn’t on sale to the general public, so how can it technically win an award for “Best Mobile Imaging Device”? Moreover, we all know the Galaxy Nexus on the spec front doesn’t have the best camera, especially when you compare it to the Galaxy S II or dare I say, the iPhone 4S with optics and an 8 megapixel camera. So I don’t understand the justification behind the Galaxy Nexus winning an award for ‘Best Mobile Imaging Device’ when there are so many phones with better cameras.

Check out our hands-on time with the Nokia PureView from Mobile World Congress.
