Tiny Wings is one of my favorite iOS games. Despite not being able to beat the last level, no matter how hard I try, I still play it whenever I have a few minutes to kill. Andreas Illiger, the guy who made the game, was recently interviewed by Flow Studio. They asked him what he was working on, and his answer is enough to get any iOS gamer excited:
“I am finishing a new game right now so it is pretty stressful. I am have been on it for the last ten months and it should be done in less then three weeks. It is hard, because I am still one man band. It will be for the iOS platform again, that’s an obvious thing. Otherwise it’s a big secret, I am not telling anything to anyone.”
The interview continues with stories about Illiger’s background and how successful his game is, but let’s ignore that for a second and talk about mobile gaming in general. Yesterday there was a report published by Newzoo that said people who own iOS devices spend 5x the amount of money on games than your typical Android user. I don’t want to turn this article into an Android versus iOS debate, but step inside the shoes of a developer. They’re trying to put food on the table and a roof over their head, just like you are, so why would they go out of their way to support a platform other than iOS? Now studios are a totally different story. They have the resources to invest in multiple platforms, but like Andreas said, he’s all by his lonesome self.
What other games do you guys play that you can’t put down? Temple Run is great, but you can beat it in a weekend. Jetpack Joyride is beyond awesome, especially now that it’s been updated. And don’t forget about Groove Coaster!
