There’s a new iPhone app in the AppStore I must warn you about. It’s called Shopaholic World and it allows tween shoppers to jet set between Paris and Hawaii, with New York coming soon. In other words, it’s one of those apps that will spoil every child, no matter how cost conscious he or she is.
Needless to say, it’s pretty popular having reached the Top 10 iPad apps in Kids category in more than 100 markets as well as top 10 status in overall App Store ranking in 7 countries.
Can you protect your child from it? If it already has an iPad, I doubt anything can be done. You’ll just have to keep telling him/her about other important stuff in life, some of which still don’t have a price tag.
Aside from that “spoil factor,” the game lets kids make their outfit creations using more than 800 outfit items. Each player gets a weekly budget or “allowance” to “purchase” clothes in different “worlds” and just three weeks after launch, more than 10.5 million items had already been “bought” in Shopaholic World stores…
