The 3rd installment in the popular sci-fi first-person shooter N.O.V.A. line is now available on the App Store. N.O.V.A. 3 brings even better graphics and intense first-person shooter fun to iOS devices, and quickly finds itself on our short list of must-have games for the iPhone and iPad.

The storyline in N.O.V.A. 3 is reminiscent of other sci-fi shooter games. N.O.V.A. 3 takes place 4 months after the ending of the previous game, and protagonist Kal Wardin has been laying low for that period of time. He receives a desperate plea from Yelena to come back to Earth, and Kal has to fight his way back using various weapons, vehicles, and mechs through 10 different levels across the galaxy.

In addition to the customary single-player mode, N.O.V.A. 3 also adds a more-immersive multiplayer experience. Up to 12 players are allowed in a match, and N.O.V.A. 3 now allows multiple persons to be in the same vehicle at the same time for added destruction. N.O.V.A. 3 features six different multiplayer game modes on six different maps.

As is true with most Gameloft games, graphics are a major focus in N.O.V.A. 3. Gameloft has added real-time shadow and lights, particle system, and ragdoll physics to make N.O.V.A. 3 one of the most graphically rich iOS game to date.

N.O.V.A. 3 will run you $6.99, and has a whopping 1.57GB download. N.O.V.A. 3 is available for the iPhone 3GS and up, as well as all iPad models. If you’ve played the other N.O.V.A. games or are simply looking for a solid shooter to add to your arsenal, you likely should give N.O.V.A. 3 a download. Look for our full review to come after we’ve had some time with N.O.V.A. 3.
