Sprint recently shook up its Hot Spot/Tethering Plans with new prices. The Now Network has gotten rid of its old 5GB for $30 plan, replacing it with a lower entry-level 2GB plan for $20, and higher 6GB for $50 plan. The third largest cell carrier in the United States is hoping these new price points for its tethering plans, entice new customers looking for a bargain on data-only hotspot services.
Yeah, I know what you’re probably thinking. Will this change effect my current $30 5GB tethering plan? Well, Sprint assured customers that their grandfathered-in plans will be safe, of course, until you cancel that specific data-only plan.
The 2GB for $19.99 isn’t such a bad deal, the problem is The Now Network’s 3G service is ridiculously slow — to the point it’s almost meaningless to stream or download on. That being said, if you’re rocking a 4G device you can get by just fine, even if the data speeds are on WiMax (I used to consistently get close to 4MBs for downloads). WiMax speeds are good enough to get work done. This plan will intrigue people more once Sprint rolls out its LTE — whenever that may be.
