KDDI is about to add a novel Android smartphone to its AU portfolio. Kyocera’s Urbano Progresso dumps the traditional speaker for a vibrating display that conducts sound up your ear canal, making it easier to hear the person on the other end of the line even in loud environments. Moreover, the device also improves audibility for the hearing impaired.
Aside from that neat novelty, Kyocera’s smartphone also rocks Qualcomm’s dual-core processor (MSM8655) clocking at 1.4GHz, 8.1-megapixel rear-facing camera, CDMA/UMTS connectivity, as well as support for a number of Japan-only technologies like infrared and FeliCa mobile payments.
We’ve no information whether this baby will ever be available in the Western hemisphere but considering Kyocera’s push to grow its market in the U.S. that could actually happen (though with the lack of Japan-specific tech). Needless to say, we’ll be here to report on it the second the Japanese company issues a press release…
