GameStop now selling Android tablets

GameStop announced that it’s now selling a select number of Android tablets in over 1,600 of its retail stores across the country. The news broke on Friday as a promotion to “experience a new way to game” for Memorial Day weekend. The move is a clever acknowledgment from GameStop of the evolutionary shift in gaming from dedicated consoles to smartphones and tablets.

GameStop is offering a fairly wide range of tablets from Acer, Asus, Samsung, Toshiba and yes, even Apple. It sells the Acer Iconia Tab A200, Asus TF300T, Toshiba Excite 10, Asus Transformer Prime in two colors, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Acer Iconia Tab (7-inch) and Iconia Tab A200 (10-inch,) Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Viewsonic VPAD7,  three different refurbished first-generation iPad models and one refurbished iPad 2 model. Pricing is as low as $229.99 for the 7-inch Acer Iconia Tab or as high as $499.99 for the Asus Transformer Prime.

If you purchase a tablet at GameStop, you’ll be happy to know it comes preloaded with a few games and apps right out of the box. Some of the selections mentioned are Sonic CD, Riptide, Kongregate Arcade and a free issue of the Game Informer Digital magazine. Another bonus of buying from GameStop: you don’t have to pay for the tablet with money. Like anything else there, GameStop will accept trade-ins of games, consoles, iPods, iPhones and iPads to pay for the tablet or a portion of it.

You can also buy the tablets online at gamestop.com/tablets to get the same benefits without traveling to a store.
