iOS 6 may include system-wide Facebook integration, enhanced notifications and more

Last week, rumors spread that Apple will have Facebook integration added into its new mobile operating system iOS 6. Speculation only grew when Apple boss Tim Cook hinted that something was planned during the AllThingsD D10 conference. Word is Facebook integration will be very similar to Twitter’s integration that launched with iOS 5. Like Twitter, users will be able to post their photos straight from the photos app in iOS 6 to Facebook.

This addition really comes to no one surprise, but according to sources, Apple is also relying on Facebook for a big new social change for the built-in App Store: a feature called “App Liking.” Such a move would vastly improve the discoverability of apps in the App Store. Once an iPhone user likes an app from their device it will show up on that users timeline for all his or her friends to see. This makes perfect sense, and it’s puzzling why it took so long to happen in the first place.

IOS 6 won’t be a major overhaul, but it will include changes to many native Apple applications like iBookstore, iTunes Store, and the App Store. OSX Mountain Lion should be tightly integrated with iOS 6 as well, with a ‘do not disturb’ notification center, iCloud Safari tabs, and Mail VIPs. That being said, everything at this point is sheer speculation, until we hear and see what Apple has in store at its WWDC keynote on June 11.
