Samsung, the top handset provider of Android smartphones is investing $1.9 billion to build a new logic chip line to make processors for mobile devices. The new line of chips will use 300 mm wafers and 20 nanometer and 14 nanometer processing technology. The Korean based manufacturer is ramping up production to meet high demand, as people begin to move away from computers.
Sparingly, demand for system chips used in smartphones and tablets is set to more than double to $59 billion in 2016 from $23 billion last year, according to research firm Gartner. In a recent statement, Sammy said they hope to complete the new line by the end of next year, as this would help meet growing demand for “smart mobile solutions.”
Samsung is a juggernaut in the world of technology. Things are going really good for the South Korean company, and to be honest, their one of the only technology giants in Apple’s league right now. With one of the hottest phones hitting the market, the Galaxy S III — the sky is the limit for these guys.
