The iPhone and iPhone 3G have quickly shored-up the iPhone platform’s reputation as a serious mobile gaming device. Unfortunately, both handsets are limited to touch-only and tilt-based gaming controls, what with the lack of physical controls or buttons on the device. But, that may soon change.
We’re hearing that this here iControlPad has already headed into production, and may soon give iPhone gaming the boost it needs to take on dedicated gaming consoles. What you see here is the production prototype sans buttons and color. The final iControlPad will sport a black finish that should integrate nicely with the iPhone.
Of course, Apple still has to put in their two-cents on whether the iControlPad will actually be allowed to take advantage of the iPhone dock connector. Without Apple support, the iControlPad may just become another good idea that never made it. Let’s hope, for gamers’ sakes, that Apple sees fit to approve the iControlPad for use with iPhone games.
