You’ve probably heard the bad news – existing Windows Phone devices won’t get updates to Windows 8. Rather, handset makers will release some sort of intermediary solution, Windows Phone 7.8, which will boast several features of Windows 8 (like the new Start screen).
Meanwhile, Nokia will launch two small updates for Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, which will be released on June 27th. Actually that’s a start date, with availability varying across carriers and countries. In any case, it’s kinda fair to guess pretty much all Lumia 710 and 800 owners will be served by mid-July.
As for what’s included in this update, Nokia says that mobile hotspot capability is coming, allowing folks to turn their 3G/3.5G connection into a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect other devices to it. Moreover, there’s Flip-to-Silence and media streaming features.
And that’s not all, with the Finnish company announcing all of its Lumia phones will get new apps and games “over the next few weeks.” Camera app will be updated with new tricks (Smart Group Shot, Action Shot, Panorama mode and Self-timer) and we guess few games will be preloaded after the update. We’ll see…
