Samsung Wave gets its (unofficial) serving of Ice Cream Sandwich

While everyone talks about Jelly Beans these days, some folks are trying to get Ice Cream Sandwich working on non-Android phones. Take Samsung Wave for instance. It’s a pretty powerful device that rocks a 1GHz processor. Sure, it’s a single-core CPU and it’s not exactly the latest generation one, but it’s still fast enough. Its problem is in the OS – Sammy’s Bada is hardly a popular platform and efforts have been made to port some version of Android to it…

XDA-Developers is the place to go if you have a spare Wave to try new things, with one member managing to make the Wave run Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. From what I’ve understood, many things are working, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and camera; while some others like voice calling and messaging (SMS and MMS) are still “work in progress.”

Of course, we don’t suggest to just about anyone trying this at home. If you, however, know what you’re doing and really don’t care about your old Wave, well, you may want to check this out and see whether you can learn an old dog a new trick. Good luck! 😉
