Samsung keeps working on its own apps and services. The new rumor suggests that their IM app, ChatOn, may soon get video chat functionality. According to Korean website DDaily, the upcoming version of the application will be able to work over 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks and will be initially released for Android. Moreover, Sammy may decide to preload the updated app with some of its phones though “nothing has been decided” yet. Actually, they already do that with their IM client so it’s fair to argue the practice will be continued even when ChatOn gets video capabilities.
ChatOn is available for a number of platforms and devices, including Bada, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, iOS and Android. However, it’s far from being the most popular chat app. Even in its own backyard, Samsung is fighting with services like Kakao Talk, which is one of the most popular IM services in South Korea.
Something tells me the Korean electronics maker is onto something. We’ll watch this space and let you know as soon as we hear something new. Stay tuned in the meantime…
