iOS developer Cody Cooper did a code dump of the new Apple Maps app from the iOS 6 beta, and found some interesting pieces of information that could point to OSX integration with Intel-based Macs. More specifically, Cody found a reference deep within the altitude_manifest.xml file to a set of Intel-based chipsets for which certain features such as shading are disabled.
While not firm proof that Apple is working on OSX support for Apple Maps, it could point to at least some new map functionality being worked into OSX Mountain Lion. For example, 9 to 5 Mac notes that location features in iPhoto for OSX could integrate with iOS maps on an iDevice.
Of course, it could mean absolutely nothing, and no Apple Maps functionality could ultimately be found in OSX Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is scheduled to be released to the public later this month, so we should know before too long what the final version of the software would bring.
