Twist location sharing app now out of beta, available on the App Store

Twist for iOS is a location sharing application that informs someone you’re meeting up with exactly when you’ll arrive. Imagine you’re meeting your family, friends, or business colleagues for dinner, and you’re stuck in traffic. Once you’ve entered your final location and people to share information with for that trip, Twist takes live traffic information, and sends your identified individuals either a push notification (if they have Twist installed) or  an SMS text message to anyone who doesn’t have the application. Twist notifies your group when you’ve left your current location, halfway through the trip, and just as you’re arriving at your destination.

This is a pretty nifty feature, and I can immediately think of about 10 times per week Twist would come in handy for me personally. I can easily see Twist becoming one of the 20 or so applications I keep installed on my phone at any given time, as it’s by far one of the most useful applications I’ve come across to date. For now, Twist remains an iOS-exclusive application, though the Twist team have indicated an Android application is already in the works, and you can even sign up to be notified when the Android application is available by filling out a simple Google Form.

Those of you with iOS devices can head over to the App Store and download Twist for iOS. Once you’ve tried it out, be sure to give us your impressions of Twist by leaving a comment below.
