Nexus Q app adds support for older versions of Android, YouTube app adds support for Nexus Q

Google updated the Nexus Q Android app with support for older version of Android. Specifically, any handset or tablet running Android 2.3.3 or newer now have access to the app for controlling the Nexus Q streaming box, er, sphere. The social mix feature gains some improvements in the update as well. On the flip side, the YouTube app for Android has been updated with compatibility for the Nexus Q.

Google’s streaming device has gotten very mixed reviews and has yet to hit the market. So far, it has limited functionality (it can’t even be controlled with any remote other than from the Android app that must be downloaded from Google Play) and a ridiculously high asking price — $299 — that’s going to make this a tough sell.

Some buzz about the imminent release has been floating around the web this week, so we’ll have to wait and see if it proves true. Meanwhile, you can download the free Nexus Q app and YouTube app in Google Play.
