Congressman wants public feedback for mobile privacy law, launches AppRIGHTS.us

Congressman Hank Johnson is looking to do something about mobile privacy, inviting the wide community to join in with their two cents before the bill is drafted up. He also launched the appRIGHTS.us website, a “bottom-up” project that allows anyone to participate with his/her ideas to ensure their data isn’t improperly collected, sold, and exploited by app developers, carriers and OEMs. The site’s tagline is simple and straight to the point: “Our apps should serve us – not spy on us.”

According to Johnson’s senior legislative assistant, the assumption is that the federal law is “antiquated,” and that new legislation is needed to protect mobile users’ privacy. Guess we agree there’s room for government to intervene here, making sure our rights are protected by law. You are free to add your thoughts on appRIGHTS.us as well as using our comments form.

Here’s the video of Congressman Johnson talking about the issue at the United States House of Representatives…
