Lenovo has officially announced its Windows 8 tablet called the ThinkPad 2. The new slate is a 10-inch tab running Windows 8 and an Intel Atom processor. The Windows part is a huge change away from the first ThinkPad, which operated on Android. Other noteworthy specs include a 1,366 x 768 IPS display, a 10-hour battery, optional 3G / 4G, micro-HDMI output and a pair of 2MP / 8MP cameras. Users can also expect a cellular connection of HSPA+ but in the US, and the tablet will be available on AT&T’s LTE network.
Moreover, the 9.8mm-thick tablet offers another treat for customers, as it brings onboard an NFC chip along with a fingerprint reader and a pen that could be put away in a slot on the tablet. If you’re a huge nerd when it comes to USB ports, Ethernet, and HDMI jacks — get ready to be happy. The ThinkPad 2 sports three USB ports (yes, you heard correct), and it offers both an Ethernet jack and a HDMI out. Damn.
Details are still cloudy, as we don’t have word yet on the price of this tablet nor do we have an exact date as to when it will be available. At this point, the only thing we know is that it will hit the market sometime in October.
