Flickr for Android finally gets updated, brings new UI with better features

Flickr, the Yahoo-owned photo sharing company is finally giving its app on phones running the green robot some love. In this new update, users can expect to see the addition of a new horizontal swiping system, which makes navigation between photos easier, along with an iOS-style pull-to-refresh feature to pages displaying recent content.

Moreover, Android users will get the ability to edit descriptions and metadata on existing photos, which before this app, was a feature previously confined to the website only. Lastly, a dialog allowing users to choose camera software other than Flickr’s built-in option for taking photos is included.

The great thing about these additions is how swiping between photos and sections are smooth along with more intuitiveness of editing metadata on the go. Integrated sharing is another long-awaited feature added. Those of you who’ve stuck it out with this app should give it another try, as the improvements make it very usable.

It’ll be interesting to see if new CEO Melissa Meyer puts a bigger emphasis on the role Flickr plays in the direction of the company going forward. The new update to the app is a definite step forward, but more improvements need to be made. Yahoo still needs to add the ability to search your own and friends’ streams, tags and descriptions.
