Sony announces the Xperia Tablet S and Xperia T, V, and J smartphones

Sony kicked off the IFA trade show in Berlin today by introducing three new Android smartphones and one new Android tablet. Sony expanded its Xperia line with the high-end Xperia T, an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone with a 4.6-inch display (1280×720), a 1.5-GHZ dual-core Qualcomm Krait processor a 13-megapixel camera, NFC and PlayStation certification.

The Xperia V is smaller version of the Xperia T and features a 4.3-inch 720P display, LTE connectivity and a water-resistant design. The Xperia J is the affordable option and includes a 4-inch (480×854) display, 1 GHz single-core processor, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, 4GB of onboard storage and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

All three handsets include Android 4.0.4, with Jelly Bean coming soon for the Xperia T and V. The Xperia T will go on sale in the upcoming weeks, while the Xperia V and J will land before the end of the year.

Sony also unveiled the Tablet S, a 9.4-inch tablet with an aluminum body and splash-proof design. It also features an HD display with an OptiContrast panel that makes it easy to read the tablet both indoors and in bright sunlight. The Tablet S is powered by a Tegra 3 processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Pre-orders for the Android tablet start today and the Tablet S will go on sale starting September 7. Available models include a 16GB model for $399, a 32GB version for $499 and 64GB model for $599. The Xperia Tablet S will also be compatible with a variety of accessories, including a cover with built-in keybaord for $99.99, a docking stand for $99.99, a charging cradle for $39.99 and a dock speaker for $129.99.
