Sprint adds four new markets to its LTE network

Today, Sprint shared some great news about its expansion of its LTE network. The third largest wireless provider in the United States announced it is launching LTE service in four new markets across four states. These new additions will bring the company’s count up to six markets. A list which now includes Baltimore, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio. The company has been testing its 4G in many areas, including one on the down low over in Silicon Valley.

Ditching WiMax is big part of Sprint’s grand scheme of rebuilding its network; a plan which includes the company getting rid of the dead weight which is the iDen network that runs Nextel. The CDMA provider will unload WiMax on to its prepaid brands Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile. This allows the company to fulfill its preexisting partnership with Clearwire. For the time being, Sprint will continue trucking along to build up its LTE network, hoping to finish most of its rollout by the end of 2013.

That being said, it’s never bad news to hear a company expand its services to new areas, but it’s really disappointing to see that The Now Network hasn’t made its way to anywhere in the Northeast or west coast.
