Google’s Eric Schmidt used Motorola’s big NYC event to talk about the merger between the two companies. Schmidt said the company bought Motorola because it has to be competitive in the Android ecosystem and can’t turn away from this huge opportunity.

With Motorola, Google hopes to focus on four areas in the mobile industry, said Dennis Woodside, the new CEO of Motorola. The first area is 4G LTE, which opens up a new world for consumers who can access the web, use apps and watch videos from their phones. This is a natural fit , said Woodside, as Motorola is the leading LTE handset manufacturer because it partnered with Verizon and adopted LTE early on.

Woodside also mentioned Motorola’s will continue its advances in mobile phone power management, which is showcased in the Droid RAZR MAXX and the upcoming RAZR MAXX HD. Thirdly, there is the marriage between Android and Motorola, which the company said it will use to bring the best Android experience to consumers quickly.

Lastly, Motorola confirmed it will offer developer editions of all its phones, will ship handsets with the latest version of Android OS when possible, and will offer a $100 credit for to users with older Motorola handsets. This credit can be used towards the purchase of the Droid RAZR M, the RAZR HD or the RAZR Maxx HD.
